<p>I&#8217;m usually not a big fan of strictly ab workouts because my core and stomach muscles get hit hard with all of the heavy free weight exercises that I train with during my workouts, but once in awhile it just feels great to do a complete workout devoted to my abs. Maybe if I was trying to do a bodybuilding competition then I would devote more time to bringing out my abs, but until then I&#8217;ll stick with an ab workout every now and then. Now when it comes to abdominal training and building up your abs, there are some important points that you need to understand. The first thing is that crunches and situps are very over rated. I rarely do them anymore, especially sit ups. I&#8217;ll occasionally do crunches with clients but only to work the rectus abdominus somewhat. I&#8217;m worried that crunches will cause any injury like sit ups because the thoracic spine is the part that is moving, not the lumbar spine. You should also not have to worry about doing count sets and reps of these 2 exercises either. This will not get you anywhere. Understand that your abs are just like any other muscle and they can respond to heavy and weighted movements. But also understand that your abdominal wall is like an onion. There are many layers of muscles responsible for different things. For example your transverse abdominus is the deepest abdominal muscle and is responsible for spinal stability and core stability. When this muscle is developed, it sort of pulls your stomach in and keeps everything tight like a girdle. This is a very important muscle that you must train to get a good set of abs. So without further ado, let&#8217;s get into the first workout.Ab Workout #1</p>
<p>Planks In Bottom Position 3&#215;60 SecondsThis exercise is the same as the previous weeks&#8217; except slightly harder. Place your elbows on a cushioned surface, keep your butt and back straight and hold it for as long as possible. </p>
<p>Back and Forth Planks 3 x 20 RepsAssume a normal plank position like previous weeks. From the plank position, push forward on your elbows and come up on your toes so your center of gravity is forward. Try and keep your butt and lower back flat. Mine is up a bit in the picture because I was having some lower back pain that day. If you experience any lower back pain, try and hike your butt up slightly. </p>
<p>Overhead Weighted Crunches 3x25Grab two dumbbells, one in each hand and raise them straight over your head while you are lying down. Perform a crunch trying to get your shoulder blades off the floor and contracting your abdominals the entire time. Bicycles 3 x 50Lay on your back with your hands behind your head. Crunch up and attempt to touch your right elbow to your left knee then immediately try and touch your left elbow to your right knee. Do this movement in a quick fashion back and forth without your back touching the ground and you remaining in the crunched position. </p>
<p>Ab Workout #2</p>
<p>Stability Ball In And OutsAssume a regular plank position on the stability ball. From there, push the ball out with your elbows on the ball and bring it back in. Repeat this motion for the desired amount of reps. AlligatorsLay flat on your stomach like so with arms out to your sides. From there, push your body up around 1-2 inches off the ground really tightening your stomach and keeping your body straight. Pushup Rows With WeightsAssume a pushup position. From there, raise one arm up and drive your elbow back while keeping your hips as perfectly still as possible. Bring your hand down and repeat with the other side. Knee UpsGrab the underside of a bench and move your body towards the end. Let your legs hang down in a semi bent position and from there, contract your lower abdominal region hard pulling your knees towards your chest. </p>

<p>Lower ab workouts are different than any other workouts that you are going to do. In short, you will be doing lot workouts to work your tummy muscles and ensure your abdomen is trim, fit and slender. The exercises designed to work the lower abdominal muscles are very easy to do. They are the set of exercises for which you must concentrate the most in order to be sure you are doing them correctly. </p>
<p>When doing your ab exercises, make sure you lower abs are actually working. Along the course of your exercise and you feel your other muscles are working instead of your lower abs, then you are not doing it properly. Take time rest, go over your routine and listen to your body. After all, what&#8217;s the point of sweating out and not targeting the right muscles correctly?</p>
<p>In doing these ab workouts, it is important that you take control of your routines. For some, they believe that by doing the routines quickly, they&#8217;d be able to achieve quicker results. However though, the more you increase the momentum of your routines, the lesser control you achieve over your muscles, thus reducing your workout&#8217;s actual effectiveness. </p>
<p>It doesn&#8217;t matter that you do a thousand repetitions for a specific routine or spend hours at doing the same workout all over again. The quality of workout is matters at all. It is very crucial that you understand the right muscles to work on, and focus doing it performing. Remember that slow and controlled exercises are the key to a successful workout.</p>
<p>Of course, in any forms of exercise, having the right and proper diet is just as important. Avoid sugary foods, carbonated drinks, fried foods, and the likes. Also, replenish your body by regularly drinking glasses of water daily. Now that you have some ideas on how to have the proper abdominal workout, make sure you put your heart into doing the routines correctly. That way, you can easily achieve a leaner and toner lower ab in no time.</p>

<strong><i>Question by Dollie</i>: Teen Dieting? No strict lectures please!?</strong><br />
I have a few questions about dieting.</p>
<p>First of all, I am 14 years old, about 5&#8242; 4 inches, I weigh about 150 pounds and I have a small frame. My state begins its school year a lot earlier than other states, so I am left with about 7 weeks to diet. In those 7 weeks, I hope to lose between 20- 25 pounds. My questions include the following:</p>
<p>If I take in roughly 600- 700 calories a day and burn off about<br />
350 (or more) calories, how many pounds can I lose a week?</p>
<p>After I lose the weight, couldn&#8217;t I just slowly up my caloric intake to get back to normal? Everyone says that if I go back to eating normally I will &#8220;gain it all back plus some&#8221;, but by doing it slowly would that help?</p>
<p>I plan to jump rope about 30 minutes a day, do 3 &#8220;10 minute workout&#8221; videos, and use the Ab Lounge ( the old one ) for 15 &#8211; 30 minutes a day. This will be all 7 days of the week. Will that help a lot?</p>
<p>I know it&#8217;s not much, but I plan to drink about 1 (or more) liters of water a day. No juice, soda, or even water packets to sweeten the water. How much will that help?</p>
<p>I am currently a size 12, by losing 20 pounds what size could I be? Please keep in mind that I am not looking to be a size 2 or 0. My goal is a 6, and no lower than a 4.</p>
<p>How many calories do I burn in my sleep?</p>
<p>A larger &#8220;chest&#8221; area runs on my mother&#8217;s side of the family, and big legs on my father&#8217;s.<br />
Does this mean I&#8217;ll be curvy? ;D</p>
<p>Does sleep effect (or affect) weight loss?</p>
<p>I think that&#8217;s it. If you are going to lecture me, please do not bother. My mother did a crash diet at my age by only eating about 500 calories a day, and exercising non stop. With that, she lost over 40 pounds in 2 months. And I won&#8217;t develop an eating disorder. I far love cake too much! ;D And also because my mom does watch what I eat because she doesn&#8217;t want me to develop an eating disorder, and I also think that eating disorders are attributed by weak-minded people, and I certainly am not one. <p><i>Answer by cyn_texas</i><br/>You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don&#8217;t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you&#8217;ll need added potassium). Keep your fat percentage high. Adding in green vegetables &#038; some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.</p>
<p>If you starve yourself, your body will freak out and will want to store every ounce in case it doesn&#8217;t get nourished again. You need to give it adequate nourishment so it doesn&#8217;t slow your metabolism down to adjust for lower calories.</p>
<p>Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.</p>
<p>Carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health.  The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days.  Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want &#8220;something&#8221; have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms &#038; cheese.  Pork chops for lunch.  Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad.  Steak for dinner.  Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert.  Eat so much you won&#8217;t feel deprived of anything.  By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.</p>
<p>High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones &#038; allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.</p>
<p>Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck!</p>
